It’s my birthday month and Block 9 is one of my favourites from this year’s block-of-the-month, Hindsight. It reminds me of a compass–I hope yours is pointing you in the right direction. Feel free to share Block 9 on social media, tagging @justitch.ca, #bom2020, #hindsightquiltalong, #hindsightis2020
Start by stacking and cutting two rectangles along one diagonal and two rectangles along the other diagonal:
Sew one of these right triangles to the left side of a coloured triangle (note the overhang slightly below and more above the coloured triangle):
Press and trim the right triangle following the diagonal line of the coloured triangle:
Sew another right triangle to the other edge of the coloured triangle. Trim to 4.5″ x 6.125″:
Repeat with the remaining three coloured triangles. Lay out all nine pieces of the block:
The block now assembles like a 9-patch (click HERE for a 9-patch tutorial). Sew three rows of three, with alternating seams:
Sew three rows together and you’ve completed Block 9!
Happy Quilting!
